Welcome to Arvonia Vets
****Both post are now filled****
We are growing and as a result we currently have 2 vacancies, adding to our existing team.
1. Veterinary Surgeon
We are looking for a colleague to add to our existing close knit team of vets. The successful candidate will be at a stage of their career where they have some sound experience under their belt but want to move into a position where they can develop further, with supportive management and a great array of high quality equipment at their disposal.
About the vet team
The veterinary team is headed by Richard Hillam (postgraduate certificate in surgery and radiology) and complemented by three other full-time veterinarians and one very experienced vet purely involved in developing and organising the practice. The vets have a variety of professional interests from surgery to medicine and imaging.
About our work
There is not much we cannot do here but in the event that we are unable to perform a procedure we use visiting specialist surgeons to come into the practice - an ideal opportunity for us to scrub in and learn with them. This also means that we keep control of our cases and maintain continuity with our patients and clients. Recently we installed a 64 slice CT scanner, which is quite a big step for a small independent practice but we are finding that it has added to the level of service we are providing and the quality of care offered. We believe there is a large gap in the market for clients with limited funds or without a large insurance cover and we like to be flexible with our fees to fill that gap, to take advantage of our equipment, enthusiasm and to help our clients.
We use a dedicated out of hours service (so there’s no on-call) but in cases where we want to ensure the very best of continuity of care our nurses will, where possible, provide around the-clock-care. This has proved very rewarding for the team and something our clients really appreciate.
Job satisfaction
As directors with some considerable experience, we can recall our earlier careers and understand what is important to colleagues in achieving a happy and fulfilling career. Working up your cases, going the extra mile and developing strong client relationships are what we believe make being in the veterinary profession so enjoyable. Since the directors qualified together many years ago at Liverpool, client expectations have risen, and this gives an opportunity to fulfil those expectations, work to a high standard and get rewarded with the job satisfaction associated with working to a high standard.
Case discussions
In support of the veterinary team we encourage case discussions on a daily basis but also in regular meetings outside the practice where the whole vet team meets over a fantastic breakfast at Greenway Hotel and Spa. We dedicate the whole morning to talking about our patients and we encourage vets to bring photos to discuss clinical cases, which is facilitated by having online access to the medical records during the meeting. These mornings are team building and an enjoyable way to share knowledge and to develop professionally.
CPD
The practice provides bespoke CPD for the whole team to learn together. In the past we have had a full day of cardiac ultrasound, another on abdominal ultrasound, 2 full days on CT, a half day on ophthalmology and more. We would like a successful candidate to be interested in working towards a post graduate certificate which would be funded and supported by us. By investing in you we understand we will make you highly marketable, however, we hope that we will create an environment that you will not want to leave!
We are independent and growing
Although the CMA has knocked the profession, its criticism is principally aimed at corporate groups so, as an independent, we see it as an opportunity rather than a threat. Arvonia is a stimulating and interesting place to work, which is growing and developing. We want a motivated colleague to join us so that they can embrace what is on offer and contribute positively to our team.
